Introduction
Greetings from one of the oldest surviving endgame raidguilds left in EverQuest. There are a few guilds around who were raiding back in PoP. Some that raided Luclin when it was new, a handful left who charged Trakanon in his lair and almost none left who did Lord Nagafen, Lady Vox in their haydey. We were there helping people recover their bodies from blown Plane of Fear breakins. We did multi-day long Plane of Sky raids. We've been there all along since EverQuest discovered large scale raiding and its whats kept us playing this game.
Its also what will keep us playing this game until they turn the lights out, or we can't find enough people left who want to turn a dragon into an ex-dragon. We would like to have you along with us as we continue to play this game the way it was intended to be played.
Why Ring of Valor you ask?
- Boxing is the exception, not the rule. We strive to have as many people on a raid as possible without having someone play multiple characters or play alternate characters to make things work.
- We're not aggressive about your attendance. We're not going to tell you that you don't raid enough to belong here.
- We're a dkp guild, if you play alot, you'll earn alot.. if you play less, you'll earn less. We honor your earnings and farm alot of content so you'll get chances to spend it. More on this below.
- We have adult management. We've been doing this a long time, and do what we can to treat people like adults.
- We are less concerned with out ranking serverwide, or on this server for that matter. Its more important to us to earn our accomplishments, than to exploit encounters.
- We don't cheat. MQ and other hacks aren't permitted. We also don't try to break encounters to circumvent lockout timers or gain flags in ways that seem unearned.
Tell Me about your Loot system
Each person attending a raid gets paid DKP points either hourly, or per raid based on the value of the loot that drops. These points accumulate. We also look at your 30day raid attendance. We take those two numbers and multiply them to get a new number called "Power"
Each time loot drops, Officers decide what to do with it. The typical path is to put it up for people to buy with their Power points.
- If the raids an old farm raid, loot is sold off by bidding Power. Loot officer calls in guildchat open bidding starting at 5 Power and going up in chunks of 5 until a soft cap called MAX is reached. MAX is the maximum value an item can cost per our spreadsheet
- For new content, its offered to people based on their Power. The loot officers say things like "First call for ITEM, Names with 2000+ Power" If you want the item and you have more than 2000 Power, you send your name in. They collect the names... determine who has the most power and they reward the item to that person.
Other interesting things about our loot system is that currently visible armor is FREE. as in doesn't cost you anything. We expect and encourage everyone to suit up in this stuff so no barriers to entry. We limit people to 1 visible loot item per week in the case of new-high demand stuff, otherwise spend as you like.
FAQ
Q. What is your answer to loot delegation systems where all or most loot is handed out via the some council?
A. We've been there.. we tried it. We discover that all these loot systems start out with pure intent, and end up biased and corrupt. It won't be long before your hard work will be flung by the wayside and some newbie will gain that thing you've had your heart set on. The DKP system world prevents that by modeling the real world. You earn your pay, you spend it.
Q. Don't delegation style guilds progress faster? They can reward play-skill with better loot than simply doing your time to spend points.
A. Perhaps. In the end run a guilds loot system is in place to help a guild progress. People who put in the time to rack up large balances, have proven their likelihood to be around to use the loot that they earn. We'd rather not engage in nightly emotional conflicts about "I deserve that weapon", etc. Its black-and-white and publicly visible who should win loot in a DKP world. Delegation guilds are also the frequent target of a class of player we seek to avoid. "The Loot and Scooter". If you know going into a guild that will get paid.. and you will get to spend according to your balance, your inherently less attractive to people who'd rather lay some bullshit on the council in an effort to gain easy gear.
Q. I'm not vested in your world, so why would I join it when I start out at a disadvantage?
A. Everyone here started at 0. Most got a bonus of some sort when they joined, but other than that people have earned what they have here. We are all about keeping things right and fair. That said we do realize that, like big league sports teams, some signing bonuses are in order to attract serious talent, and people who need opportunity and fixing up also have their roles to play. We have an interesting statistic: Over 80% of our loot drops land on the bottom half of our stakeholders. People in our system climb to the top by being very discriminating about gear and making a plan. If you've ever daydreamed up a magelo profile, we're your guild.
Some detail on our current signing bonuses. These requirements are for BEFORE YOU APP:
- Have Coin of Brell = 500dkp or Emblem of Brell = 750dkp
- Are Covorteum Flagged = 100dkp or Covorteum flagged and Can get all UF missions for other groups = 200dkp
- Are Void Flagged for access to Tower = 50dkp.
These numbers are totaled up and multiplied by an attendance multiplier that can TRIPLE IT if you play 98% or more over 30days. Potentially gaining a 3000dkp headstart in a world where our multiyear biggest stakeholders have 11000ish. Not bad pay for 30 days in, and that is above and beyond what you'd make from the raids in that first month. Currently 100% raiders are bagging 500-700dkp a month. Items cost anywhere from free, to 5-50ish points for tower bid items, to 200 points or so for the best things we're seeing in Underfoot.
Talk to us. We'd like to be your new home. Lets kill some shit together.
